A round table which discussed the conceptual directions of the development of renewable energy sources (RES) in Uzbekistan, was recently organised by the parliamentary faction of the Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Adolat in collaboration with Uzbekenergo, Uzbekreport.com reported. The meeting garnered leading scientists and experts in the field of energy and energy efficiency of the Academy of Sciences, representatives of relevant ministries and departments, enterprises and organisations.

The Chairman of the Board of Uzbekenergo presented a report on conceptual directions of the development and use of renewable energy sources. Uzbekistan has created a sound scientific and technological base of large-scale use of renewable energy. Some specific examples affirmed high efficiency of the use of renewable energy sources, domestic developments, which are quite popular outside the country. Comparing with the fuel energy, the speaker gave an analysis of the development of technologies and equipment for renewable energy, hydropower resources, solar and wind power using systems, combined renewable energy.?

Achievements of the company to use renewable energy were shown with specific examples. Especially wind power plant with capacity of 750 kW in the deep lake, solar collectors and panels for heat and electricity in Tashkent, Samarkand, Navoi, and other areas are successfully operating. It was reported that Uzbekistan has more than 150 plants for heat and energy supply based on renewable energy.?

According to lawmakers and scientists, despite number of normative documents regulating the relations in the field of renewable energy, practical steps to create new, unique technologies and innovative products bear only separate and non-system character. This is mainly due to lack of proper regulatory framework and incentives for the development of clean energy. At the same time, relatively low prices for traditional energy make renewable energy economically attractive. At the end of the meeting, recommendations regarding the development of alternative energy were made. In addition, improvement of legislation in the aforesaid areas was also discussed.
