Firefox/Chrome: If Google Reader's new layout is too cluttered or busy for your taste and you'd prefer a layout that's a little cleaner and well arranged, this Mac OS-themed userstyle looks at home on a Mac, but offers a clean and attractive reading experience on any system.
Reader Allen sent in this userstyle he created to get around the design changes to Google Reader. He uses a Mac, so it's clearly inspired by the design of Mac OS X Lion, but you don't need to be on a Mac to use it or appreciate it. Subscriptions and folders are on the right, and will appear in bold if there are unread items, and the number of unread items will appear next to it. The userstyle preserves recommended items and the ability to quickly toggle between all and only unread articles. Menu and management options are at the top of the page and easy to see.
You'll need the Stylish add-on for Firefox or Chrome installed before you can load the userstyle, but once you do, visit Google Reader normally and the interface should be completely transformed. What do you think, too Mac OS for you, or does its clean, Finder-esque look appeal to you? Let us know in the comments.
