I learned this lesson when I was seven, before I even had a bank account.
During hot summers, my friends and I liked to mess around in the big pile of dirt in the back corner of our yard. We?d make a series of channels in the dirt, creating a series of mini-canals that included aqueducts.
Then we?d turn on a hose at one end and marvel at how we were masters of the universe, controlling the flow of water with a mini-dam or sluice gate.
Of course, I wasn?t the only person on the planet to think of controlling the flow of water. Rivers all over the world have been dammed up to generate electricity and make money. And in some cases that?s been a good thing.
Now I?m not advocating you run out and dam up any more rivers, but just as it?s possible to control the flow of water, it?s also possible to influence the flow of money.
In business it?s all about getting attention, how you do it, how effective you are at it and where you direct it that determines how much money flows into your bank account.
Assume people will find you and you?ll always struggle.
